London Stanstead is the UK's third largest airport for international scheduled passengers.  With growth of 17.5% in passenger numbers (12 months to end December 2002), it is one of the fastest growing major airports in the world.  A £60 million extension to the terminal building opened in April 2002. Stansted Airport is set to grow to serve 25 million passengers per annum by 2010 - in September 2002 its local planning authority approved a £250 million further investment. The airport is situated some 30 miles north-east from the centre of London. From the City take the A11 and then the M11 to Junction 8 from where the airport is clearly signposted. Short and long term parking is available. Car hire is available from the airport. The Stansted Express runs every 15 minutes during the day to and from London Liverpool Street (every 30 minutes early morning, weekends and evenings). The journey takes about 45 minutes. Central Trains runs daily trains between Cambridge and Stansted. There is also a local service that runs between Stansted and Hackney Downs.
